Our Students:At Meled (an acronym for Mercaz L'mida Dati), we commence our school year with over sixty young men and women of traditional and observant homes who have dropped out of high school. Our students have dropped out or have been ejected from traditional educational settings due to a variety of reasons; some of our students have had difficulty in dealing with the academic rigors of high school while others have issues of substance abuse, anti-social behavior, have been abused or come from dysfunctional home settings. As the year progresses, students continue to drop out of their schools and drop into Meled, so that by year's end our ranks grow up to one hundred troubled youth Our Staff:Meled is blessed with an idealistic and creative staff and administration, under the guidance of Dr. Menachem Gottesman, a developmental psychologist who has specialized in dealing with issues of Jewish identity among adolescents. The school was established in 1997 and is a fully accredited academic high school and officially designated as a "learning center" by the Ministry of Education. Our Setting:Meled is located in the center of Jerusalem on Hillel Street, just behind Zion Square and the Ben Yehudah pedestrian mall. We are at the heart of the city's bar and nightclub district, a focal point for many of the struggling youth of the Greater Jerusalem area.
